Town and Pompey Linked With Motherwell Midfielder
Monday, 3rd Jun 2019 13:33

Town and Portsmouth are reported to be showing interest in Motherwell’s Spanish midfielder Alex Rodriguez Gorrin, who is out of contract at the end of the month.

According to Football Insider, the 25-year-old is set to leave Fir Park on a free transfer after one season at the Scottish Premiership side with the Blues and Pompey both keen.

Rodriguez Gorrin, who impressed during 2018/19 in a deep central midfield role, was with local side Tenerife as a youngster before joining Sunderland’s youth set-up.

Having failed to make a first-team breakthrough at the Stadium of Light, spells in New Zealand with the Wellington Phoenix, in Portugal with Boavista and in Romania with Spesi Sfantu Gheorghe followed before his move to Scotland last summer.

In total, Rodriguez Gorrin (pictured above in his days with the Black Cats) made 17 starts and seven sub appearances for Motherwell without scoring and achieved the highest number of interceptions, 9.75 per game, in Europe during 2018/19.

Previously he has been linked with a move to the Championship with Blackburn, Millwall, Wigan and Bristol City all said to be interested.

I mean, I've never heard of the guy,he might be brilliant but this sounds like a Mick spesh to me so hopefully rather than a Lambo job.

Some success at youth level followed by a nomadic career in such footballing wildernesses as New Zealand, Romania and Scotland, where he wasnt a regular starter. All at the age of 25.

If true hope he shows me how wrong I am but not at all excited by this

Lambert is going to have the same budget as McCarthy did. If he's lucky.

Could be decent Back-up for Skuse the interceptor?

Though it would be great to see Downes being shaped for that role. He's always struck me as a good CDM

An unlikely signing considering we already have cover in this position unless Lambert is considering playing a back three that will have Skuse as part of the back 3 with the option to move into midfield like Steve Sedgley did successfully in the 90's.

One of the stranger links we'll have this summer I'd imagine.

How do we have cover we only have Skuse as a cdm? And lets face it he hasn't exactly been solid this season.

Skuse in a back 3 with Chambers, stuff nightmares are made of.

Spanish players are prone to slipping on wet pitches.

Why did he only have a one year contract if he's that good?

Doesn't fill one with a lot of confidence if he can't make it in Scotland? My granny was top scorer there a couple of decades ago!

Mind you we have ever picked up in own foreign players before in this way like Castro Sita and Bobby Petta, so you never know.

Actually he looks pretty good in the EADT video (yes, I know - they all look good in the video!) But if he could reproduce what you see there at PR, then I'd have him in like a shot (-:) of which he manages one or two as well, although his forte seems to be getting the ball off the opposition). And from his point of view, he wouldn't have to wear that awful yellow jersey again.

Can he pass a ball to a team mate on a regular basis? If yes he's the man!

Are we ever going to pay for a decent player again or are we limited to only freebies from now on?! Can only get so far gaining free players

Are we linked because he doesn't score goals?

AYACCA added 16:34 - Jun 3
he's possibly the best player ever.

If he can pass he might be a misfit 😂 regarding 1 year contract lots of players sign short contracts if they feel they're higher than that level to entice offers from the likes of us and Portsmouth.
