Leeds United, Middlesbrough and West Brom’s £2.5 million transfer target “set to leave” current club

In May, the Daily Star claimed that Leeds United, Middlesbrough and West Brom were among the sides interested in Portsmouth winger Jamal Lowe.

Now, it has been claimed by Football League World that Jamal Lowe is set to leave League One side Portsmouth this summer, as significant interest from the Championship continues to grow.

Alongside Leeds United, Middlesbrough and West Brom, fellow Championship sides Millwall and Wigan Athletic have also been credited with interest in the 24-year-old. Premier League outfit Burnley have also been linked with a move for Lowe, who is valued at around £2.5 million by Pompey. It is only Millwall who have reportedly lodged a bid for Lowe so far this summer, but it was turned down by the League One side.

Lowe played a vital role in Kenny Jackett’s Portsmouth side last season. In 55 games across all competitions, Lowe netted 17 goals, laying on nine assists for his teammates along the way. Despite Lowe’s impressive goal and assists haul, they were not enough to fire Pompey to the Championship, falling at the hands of the eventual play-off final losers Sunderland in the play-off semi-finals.

The League One side will have been hoping that they could hold on to Lowe for the 2019/20 season, but the latest developments claiming he will be leaving Fratton Park this summer will have dented those hopes.

It will be interesting to see how Lowe’s situation at Pompey develops. The League One side will be hoping that they can bring in a decent fee for one of their better players but with one-year left on his deal with the club, they may want to get him off the books early on in the summer rather than risk losing him on the cheap.
