Portsmouth and Coventry City transfer target unlikely to rejoin Doncaster Rovers

Journalist Liam Hoden has said that Doncaster Rovers fans not to get their hopes up over a potential return deal for Liverpool midfielder Herbie Kane after speculation was fuelled when he attended their 3-2 win over Fleetwood Town.

After Liverpool starlet Herbie Kane was spotted back at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday afternoon, Doncaster Rovers supporters had hoped that it could be a sign that a return was on the cards after a thoroughly successful loan spell last season.

However, journalist Liam Hoden’s latest words on the situation have massively played down the chances of Kane returning to the club this summer. Speaking on Twitter, he said:

Kane has been linked with a number of clubs over the course of the summer transfer window, with sides from the Championship and League One said keen on a deal for the young midfielder. Championship pair Charlton Athletic and Millwall were linked but given that their window to bring him in has closed, it is likely that a League One loan move will be made.

League One pair Portsmouth and Coventry City have also been heavily linked with a move for Kane.

Last season was Kane’s first season of senior football, but his performances made him a fixture in Grant McCann’s side. He played in 49 games for the club, scoring seven goals and providing 10 assists in the process.

Prior to his loan spell with Doncaster, Kane had spent his time playing for the youth sides at Liverpool, playing for the Under-23s and Under-18s as well as representing the club in the UEFA Youth Cup.
