Liverpool legend linked with Leeds United as replacement boss at Elland Road

Marcelo Bielsa is known for his unpredictable nature as well as his unconventional ways of managing a team, but he ultimately gets the best out of those players beneath him with his methods. When his initial deal ended in the summer, the majority of Leeds United fans were worried as to whether the Argentinian would stay, especially given their failure to gain promotion during his first season.

Leeds eventually managed to persuade Bielsa to commit to an extra year, with the option of a further one, but did Leeds have any kind of contingency should they have lost out on Marcelo Bielsa?

Today it is being reported by Football Insider that Leeds indeed did have a plan, in the shape of former Liverpool captain and current Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard, who was and still is on Leeds United’s radar for the top spot at Elland Road.

The report suggests that The Whites are keeping tabs on Gerrard’s progress in his first managerial job north of the boarder, with a view to bringing the former England captain to West Yorkshire to fill in the huge shoes that Bielsa will eventually leave behind.

Gerrard is one of many former England and Premier League players to take to management recently, with Frank Lampard, Scott Parker and Jonathan Woodgate also taking big jobs at big clubs, but with a club the size of Leeds United interested in the 39-year-old, would that give the Liverpool-born man the encouragement needed to walk away from Rangers, only halfway through his four year contract at Ibrox.

I’m interested to see how the Leeds fans would feel about his appointment should it transpire?
